Feather meal is used as a dry nitrogen amendment. Feather meal has the second highest concentration of nitrogen of any organic amendment (blood meal is first).

Like blood meal, feather meal is very fast-releasing source of nitrogen when soils are warm and moist.

While granular poultry or poultry manure is often the least expensive organic source of nitrogen, feather meal is the least expensive option when trying to avoid phosphorus and potassium additions, which can accumulate over time with ongoing poultry manure applications.
